Oh bologna

Never seen that movie but now I really want to... but that's not really surprising. I'm really behind in watching movies. Really behind. I feel like I've missed out on a lot of "cultural capital" as my sociology teacher would say. I understand why it's important to be apart of social happenings as they are "happening", but frankly, I just don't care. Not yet anyway; I'm still in a perpetual state of not giving a fuck. I believe once I can liberate myself from the underlying nazi control I find myself in... I can freely express myself exactly how I feel... which I believe will contribute greatly to my overall happiness.

Or something like that.

Do you study the yapaneez? (if so let's chat ;))

So this last few weeks I've been busting my ass for Japanese harder than anything I've ever busted before. And I've busted a lot of shit! My class meets four days a week Mon-Thurs from eleven o'clock to noon. Were using the Genki textbook which I've found to be very helpful compared to some of the other ones I've used. It's more difficult I think but the ideas are explained better. The class is comprised of mostly of college students around twenty years old, which is nice and a pain in the ass at the same time. I love college compared to high school, but you still find the certain individuals who never seem to have moved on...

Depending on the size we can run through a chapter in the Genki book in about two weeks, or eight class sessions, give or take. Every chapter we learn about.. oh... fifty vocab words and something close to 25 kanjis. We have a conjugation quiz almost every day where we have to conjugate four words between te form, short form, short negative, short past, and short past negative, in three and a half minutes. I haven't done the math but I haven't totally grasped short form yet and if I don't get a good start on the quiz it usually doesn't  end well. This break I hope to do some massive studying to get it under control... considering a lot of the new things were learning depends greatly on short forms.

Every week we have a vocab test, a kanji quiz, two or three conjugation quizzes, and every other week a chapter test. I think I've gotten more homework in this fall term's Japanese class than I did in all my classes my senior year in high school put together. Duh!!!

Right after Japanese I'm taking an intro to sociology class, which is misleading to say the least. Two hours long, two days a week. I thought we would be engaging in massive amounts of argument and debate over the class issues "popular culture", giving differential points of view and comprising new and interesting theories. Holy fuck was I wrong, but then again I guess I shoulda figured that coming from an introduction class "the sociological imagination". My teacher claims to be an "old hippie" from Oklahoma, but everyone knows hippies didn't come from the mid south... which supports her attitude of faux-hippiness. Its easy to tell she's full of it, otherwise.

But don't get me wrong, she's a sweet lady. She's just really distracted and likes talking about herself and her point of views on things... without giving much room for class discussion. She also loves giving attention to how she's a part of the "upper-middle class" and likes doing things like wine tasting, while reminding us she came from a poor family. It's really hard to me to tell whose team she's playing on.

Two exams later with one week left in the class, we'll see where this class takes me.

Tuesdays bring be the pool session for scuba class at eight in the morning. All I have to say is, though it's a pain in the ass waking up at seven, hardly having enough time to get ready, then driving for a half hour to a class so I can jump in a pool during the coldest winter we've had in ten years; scuba diving is fucking awesome. 'nuf said. It's a spendy fucking hobby but it's hard to describe the feeling you get after being underwater for an hour at a time, just swimming around and shit. Thursdays we have the theory session which we turn in some worksheets that we fill in from a book. Today however we learned about dive tables and how to use em.

The weekend after thanksgiving I'm getting certified with a river dive from a local dive shop. Did I mention this is the coldest winter we've had in ten years? Do or die motha fucka, live free or die hard, young forever, go big or go home, or something like that. I'll get back to you guys when my testes grow back.

Been doing a little climbing on Fridays with a friend. We've been going to a place  a half hour out of town that usually isn't very populated (above). The rock is nice and solid with few flaky spots but I noticed spots of wear that bumped some routs from 5.6 to 5.9+. At least the rock isn't granite... I don't think I've ever lost so much skin than with granite.

Three days a week on Mon/Wed/Fridays I have climbing class at school. It's just a one credit class but it's nice to have time in the mornings to climb before my real classes start. It's a great way to get rid of morning energy and get focused for the rest of the day. If I'm gonna be paying for school I may as well enjoy it, eh?

Lately more than ever my family has been driving me fucking insane. As if there's anything new there. I try as hard as I can to understand why they do the stupid things they do, and why seem to resent me like they do, and why they always fall back into the same mistakes that make problems for them in the first place, but all I can conclude is that they're idiots. Granted it's probably not their fault, it's still the truth, which means I can nothing but forgive them for their shortcomings and try to move on in a whirlpool of stupid-shit.

That being said I'm still trying to find a good working schedule for me that I can really be happy with. I know my posts have been long, boring, spaced and infrequent, but I promise I'll be making more regular posts sooner than later. Especially with fuyuyasumi coming up, I should have some free time to spend with my bloggerbros. Until then, this is Steve signing out.

To all my blogging cuddies

This means yo sexy ;-]

I've been playing waitress on Friday night in a busy restaurant called my life, and the food on one side of the tray weighs just a tad more than the drinks on the other side, and honestly it's kind of hard balancing it all with one hand above my head.

But fear not my blogging bros, I will return to the community with open arms and gifts for all who accept really insignificant but possibly important gifts.

Until my return, peace out fellas, and keep being awesome.

like I owed the bitch a show

I would have to say, this week has gone by extremely fast. Earlier today I was trying to figure out what day it was, when I realized what day it was!

Monday my Creative Writing teacher canceled class on account of Sunday being Halloween, and said "you know man... like I'd come out of my house in the mornin' and see some of student's just passed out on my lawn... makeup and wigs and shit... they'd wake up and and I'd ask em if they wanted coffee." This is fortunate for me considering I had spent Halloween partying in the streets, smoking in the park, and breaking into the science building at my university. Monday was here and like hell I was going to class. I ended up waking up when the rest of my classes were over anyway so there isn't much I could have done.

Tuesday I woke up extremely late (go figure) and contemplated skipping my pool session of scuba diving, but I figured if hurried I could make it. Grab my bags, jackets, gear, keys and wallet, phone, ipod, what else? A normally thirty minute drive was shortened to about ten minutes and I arrived at a time I thought was much... much later than it was. Booked it inside, striped down and got mi swimmies on, and I was ready for all the chlorine in the world. After a massive cleansing of my brain I had enough time to march to Japanese class and study some grammar for a half hour, right before one of my many tests. Monday and Tuesday just kind of... blended together.

Wednesday which is apparently today had rolled around, and I had studied for only one of the two tests in Japanese I would have. Last night I wrote up some notes on the Grammar test, but had forgotten to study for the second half of the vocabulary test. Shit! I thought. Recalling back to the list, I had remembered almost half the vocab from other occurrences and figured my best bet was to kill the grammar quiz, and wing the vocab test. But not before my ten o'clock rock climbing class. Mostly I spend my time bouldering since the climbing club does a good job at setting frequent routs up, and surprisingly enough the rest of the class spend most of their time tied in. I start my hour with a nice traverse to get warmed up, while scouting for newly set boulder problems. Then I either check em out, or start on one of my projects and see what's up. Today however A friend asked me to belay and afterwards I decided to give it a shot. About half way up the wall I realize my Japanese class was only minutes away, and I'm at the opposite downhill side of campus! So I reached around the ledge, busted a fat leg hook/hand match, reached for the finish, and geared down to pack up. I was out like hot shit, and I though I missed my conjugation quiz, I still made it in time for the grammar test and vocab test. Matched it up with some sutdyin' and homework sesh, drove home, bought some kings and smoked a joint on the bridge.

After my smoke I marched home and met up with some old cuddies. I watched em play street hockey a while and told them I couldn't ride my longboard anymore cause some bearings busted. The bro hooked up up with some old skate bearings and I set them up as soon as I could! Two seconds out the door and I see my trampoline lookin' all lonely. A few bounces before a skate sesh I suppose, I tell myself. Now, I've been workin' on some flips lately, but recently I maned up and took it the next step, 180 flips. Just like boom boom pow, I was knockin' front AND back 180 flips! I even managed the throw down a 360 flip in there. I had never felt more confident in myself then when I landed my first intentional 180 flip. Also, funny how I can't nerve up to do a straight backflip, but I can throw down with an additional spin. Tired as shit, I say goodbye and hit the streets with my longboard. Man it felt weird, my balance was way off. The board felt a lot more still than I remember, but it's been a month or two since I've been on it. It seriously feels like forever. I can't say I'm disappointed however, a few runs and I felt as good as I'd ever been, busting twenty foot nose manuals and narrow g-turns like I owed the bitch a show. Came home, finished some homework, smoked another bowl, landed some more flips... did some studying. Good day, but it definitely feels like Monday.

Now for tomorrow... >>'

my absence

School has started as most of us know. The Duke's are out showing off and the Hipsters are flashing their goods. The pretty girls walk so proud and it's hard not take a glance. Back into the world of sterotypes as cultures murge and mingle, socialize and classify. Students are becoming aware and disoriented; good thing that shit is decriminalized ;). And that shit is good is what my source says, and I can vouch for it personally. The leaves are now turning red and have fallen again, and along comes the wind to keep us inside. No longer do the skateboarders fly down the path, the rain has washed them out. Two coats is almost necessary and I'm more than glad to good use out of them. But bundled up some of us may be, there are those without a furnace, without a partner to cuddle, without a soul to keep their mind occupied with, which brings great ache to some of us to can relate.

And all I can do is think about going snowboarding. With early winds and rain comes hope of a strong and wild winter; something I could only wish for. I spent all summer fixing a delam on a new (used) board I bought from craigslist, waxing my babies, watching videos and going stoopid-doodoo-dumb on my longboard. I've been waiting for this season since- practically the end of last season! I bought my season pass early and saved like 1/3 the price, and it'll be ready when I pick it up. As far as my plans go, I'll be transferring to a new University next year so this could be my last season at my local mountain, and I'm more stoked than I've ever been before. I mean... I just wanna get out there!!

I'm also uber stoked for going snowmobiling. My dad traded some work this summer for an older two seater snowmobile that he's going to let me ride out with a friend. Riding up a mountain and making super fresh pow runs makes me cream just thinking about it. The only problem I'm facing is all my boarder friends are away for college!! Maybe I can round up some peeps to go with me but I'm totally fine boarding alone. I like the sense of solitude and freedom being alone gives me.

So again I must apologize for my absence. My life is continuously a part of a juggling act that I keep going in hopes to someday discontinue. Not my life, but the juggling act. It's hard for me to start something and complete it in the same sitting, primarily at the home that I live, with my grandparents. There is always something that is in its in between stages and wrapping it all up and saying "finished" never happens. There's no regulations, no systems, no order, no collective contentiousness of the problems that I'm surrounded with, which keeps things very interesting at my home. However much I try to wrap things up and at least say "It'll work", I continuously find flaws and problems that prevent me from being satisfied with the whole operation. I believe this process with continue at least until I find a way to move out of the house and into my own living setting, where I can call the shots and create a seriously living environment with actual order. Until then my friends I will be a mess, a constant rift in the stream of "the way things are" against my ideas of "how things should be", and you may or may not hear much from me. I guess that depends widely on my workload and my playtime. :)

Stay thirsty my friends.
